Account of fur trader Joseph Bailly de Messein of Quebec and his children, compiled by Mrs. L. P. Brock, Ionia, Mich; and additional material on the Bailly family in letters from Mrs. Brock to Joseph Schafer of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, dated August 23 and September 4 and 16, 1923. Also includes a handwritten copy of an article from Michigan's Historical Collections v. 38 by Angie Bingham Gilbert on Michigan and Indian interpreter John Tanner.

Bertha Milligan Brock (1860- ) was the curator at the Hall-Fowler Memorial Library in Ionia (Mich.), chair of the historical committee of the D.A.R., and a Michigan author and historian from Ionia County. She was married Loren P. Brock (1854- ) and they lived in Ionia. Together they had two children: Stuart Murray (1891- ) and Gertrude Edith (1894- ). Bertha wrote a chapter on the settlement of Ionia in the book, the Settlement of Ionia, Mich., by Samuel Dexter. A copy of the book is in the Clar...
